Impact Just one day after being called up from Triple-A for his Marlins debut, Weathers finds himself back in the minors. The demotion comes after he covered 3.2 innings in relief and gave up six earned runs on six hits and four walks while taking the loss Saturday against the Rangers. Weathers is expected to slot into the rotation at Jacksonville, and he could be first in line for a call-up if Miami requires a starter at any point over the final two months of the season.

Sandy Alcantara - Slips up versus Texas Alcantara (4-10) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and struck out seven without walking a batter over six innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Rangers.
Impact Alcantara had allowed just one run over his previous two starts combined, but the Rangers were able to tag him for a season-high three home runs. The right-hander didn't get any help from his offense, which managed just six hits and two walks Sunday. Eury Pérez - Likely to rejoin big club Monday The Marlins are expected to recall Perez from Double-A Pensacola to have him start Monday in Cincinnati, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Perez was optioned to Double-A shortly before the All-Star break in an effort for the Marlins to manage his workload, but after returning to action July 26 and making two abbreviated starts for Pensacola, he looks ready to rejoin the big-league rotation. Even though he's set to return to Miami, the 20-year-old right-hander will likely have some starts skipped and could transition to a relief role at some point. As long as he's a member of the rotation, however, he'll still worthy of a speculative pickup in any leagues where he may have been dropped. Perez turned in a 2.36 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 61:17 K:BB in 53.1 innings through his first 11 big-league starts prior to being sent out to Double-A.

Burger began the game on the bench, but when Jazz Chisholm (hamstring) exited in the third inning, the trade-deadline acquisition took over at third base while Jon Berti shifted to the outfield. The homer was Burger's first with Miami in four games and his 26th of the season, but his .214/.282/.523 slash line mutes the value of his power in most fantasy formats.

Ryan Weathers - Tagged with loss in Miami debut Weathers (1-7) took the loss Saturday, coughing up six runs on six hits and four walks over 3.2 innings of relief as the Marlins were downed 9-8 by the Rangers. He struck out five.
Impact Entering the game in the fifth inning, the southpaw was immediately greeted by homers off the bats of Corey Seager and Josh Jung, turning a 5-3 Miami lead into a deficit the team never overcame. Adding insult to injury, that also stuck Weathers with a blown save in his Marlins debut. He did at least soak up some innings, tossing 95 pitches (but only 52 strikes), while starter George Soriano lasted only 59 pitches before exiting. Weathers' performance didn't make much of a case for him to move into the rotation, but it's not yet clear how the Marlins will handle their fifth starter spot from here.

Impact Making his first career start in the majors, Soriano blanked Texas for three innings before Robbie Grossman crushed a three-run homer to right field in the fourth to chase the rookie right-hander from the game. Soriano was likely due to get lifted even if he had escaped that jam however, as his 59 pitches on the afternoon (36 strikes) were just two short of his season high. Ryan Weathers wound up working 95 pitches in relief, and it's not clear which of the two will fill the fifth starter spot for the Marlins next time around, or if they will work as a tandem. Soriano has the better numbers on the season with a 2.67 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 30:13 K:BB through 30.1 innings.
